Transform Your Space with a Few Simple Tips
After my Amazon Prime goodies arrived, I finally got around to restyling my shelves! This project had been on my list for months, watching our old barware gather dust, knowing a refresh was overdue. Restyling these shelves turned into a creative mini-makeover, giving me the chance to mix up functional pieces with a few beautiful accents.
I always recommend open shelving or glass cabinetry in kitchens to my clients (the shelves I used here are Iron Abode – these are a go-to favorite of mine). Adding open shelves or glass-front cabinetry lets a kitchen “breathe,” offering a break from solid cabinetry and showcases personal, beautiful pieces to add a little personality.
I find joy in the process of styling—playing with colors, textures, and items until it looks just right. It’s also a quick and cost effective way to refresh any room, and a beautifully styled shelf can become a focal point of your home. It’s a form of art for me, and with these simple tips, you can create a look that lasts too!
1. Create Groupings
Groupings are key! By clustering items together, you create visual interest and balance. For example, place a few glasses or mugs together, then anchor them with a decorative item like a small sculpture or a framed photo. The result feels intentional rather than cluttered.
2. Mix Pretty with Practical
Incorporate items you use every day alongside decor pieces. Think art prints, vases, or a decorative bowl paired with glasses or mugs. The blend of pretty and practical keeps shelves looking curated yet functional—no need to sacrifice beauty for usability.
3. Stick to a Color Palette
Choose a cohesive color palette to avoid visual overload. For my shelves, I went with whites, beiges, browns, and a touch of green. Mostly neutrals with one or two pops of color create a soothing, unified look that feels effortless and organized.
4. Add Greenery 🌿
Plants bring shelves to life! A small potted plant, a sprig of eucalyptus, or even faux greenery adds freshness, color, and texture. Greenery creates a welcoming feel, especially on kitchen shelves where it’s nice to bring in an organic touch.
