When we first meet with clients in our initial discovery call, the thing we often need to get out of the way early, is the shock of what it will actually cost! Let us help you break it down, kitchen edition, with some actual numbers from my personal kitchen remodel that we completed three years ago. Important note: numbers broken down below are updated to reflect today’s costs. They are reflective of pricing in the Denver metro area, with actual data from our projects completed in the last 6-12 months.
For our kitchen remodel, we were lucky that we did not need new cabinetry or appliances (yet…) as those purchases are the largest costs associated with a kitchen remodel. They are also the most variable in price tag. Cabinetry varies greatly depending on the vendor, door style, wood selections, box construction, etc. For a kitchen of this size, a good quality cabinet (not builder grade, not custom, but right in the middle) is probably $45K. A good estimate number to work with $1,500 per box needed. Appliance packages range significantly as well, for a good mid-range appliance package is probably also $30K-$40K.
For this remodel, here was our cost breakdown:
- Paint Cabinetry: $9,500
- New Quartz Countertops (Material & Install): $8,000
- Backsplash (Material & Install): $2,000
- Plumbing Fixtures: $2,500 (sink faucets only, we kept existing sink)
- Cabinet Hardware: $900
- Replace Hood Vent Cover and Insert: $3,500
- New Pendant Lights: $1,000
- Open Shelving Units: $1,500
- Miscellaneous Labor (Drywall repair, tile demo, paint, plumber etc.): $5,000
- Furnishing & Styling: $3,000
Project Total: $36,900
If you consider we had done this kitchen with new cabinetry and appliances, we’d be looking at probably about $110,000-$130,000. Our average kitchen remodel projects usually are between $100,000-$150,000 especially when they include new cabinetry, appliances, and often flooring. We’ve heard the recommendation that you should estimate 10%-15% of your home’s value to fully remodel your kitchen.
