Buying Guide: how to select the right size for your cabinet hardware

,

Whether you are in the midst of a kitchen renovation or simply want to elevate your spaces with a refresh, the right cabinet and drawer pulls can make a big impact in your transformation. It goes without saying that knobs and pulls are essential in the functionality of the cabinet and drawer, but they play a big role in the overall look and aesthetics of your space, too. So if you are planning to refresh or renovate your kitchen, laundry room, primary bath or even a mudroom, consider doing extra research on the little details that pack a big punch.

Not only is the size important, which we’ll get to a little further down, but so is having a consistent, overall style. Standard Cabinet Doors:

  • Pull Length: 3″ to 5″ center-to-center (c-c)
  • Modern Look: Use pulls that are ⅓ to ½ the height of the door.
  • Traditional Look: 3″ to 4″ pulls often work best.

Standard Drawers (12″–24″ wide):

  • Pull Length: 3″ to 6″ c-c
  • Rule: Use one pull centered or two smaller pulls spaced evenly for wider drawers (over 24″).

Large Drawers (24″–36″ wide):

  • Pull Length: 6″ to 12″ c-c
  • Tip: Larger pulls look more balanced and help with heavy drawers.

Extra-Wide Drawers (36”+):

  • Pull Length: 12″ or longer
  • Or consider two pulls spaced evenly.

Lastly, here is our designer tip for choosing hardware based on an overall design aesthetic. Choosing the right hardware style is important for creating cohesion and flow throughout your home. Remember, thoughtful details matter!
