Holiday Style: Nostalgic and Cozy

, ,

It seems it’s popping up everywhere….we’re all craving a nostalgic and cozy holiday home; the kind that feels like when we were kids. At my house that meant bows, bells, paper chains, homemade ornaments and Christmas countdowns.

In past years, I’ve gone a little more minimalist, allowing greenery and simple monochromatic accents to set the scene. But this year, we’re reaching back toward the cozy Christmas houses of the Griswold’s and the McCallister’s. Take a look at this year’s inspiration, some of the styles we’re replicating, and the products on order make it sing.

Window Wreaths

The past few years we’ve hung wreaths in our dining room windows and it has become my favorite little touch. I plan to go with a bolder bow ribbon this year. I always get questions on how to hang them. We put tiny nails above the window trim that we leave up all year and string a ribbon from above. A command hook right on the glass would also do the trick.

Embracing the Homemade

We’re all about a nostalgic Christmas tree; with ornaments made by the kids over the years, and the ones from vacations and white elephant parties. I plan to favor memory holding pieces, the joy of imperfect, even a little clutter-filled decor; displaying the painted mugs and Santa plates for a little extra whimsy.

Bows and Bells

Growing up, my mom always put giant bows all over our Christmas tree. That trend has come right back around the past few years, and I’m SO here for it. I ordered some burgundy colored ribbon to layer different sizes on wreaths, garland and the tree.
